about

A Thousand Twangling Instruments was originally played live at NO+1 on 18 February 2023. This track was recorded afterwards and is very close to what was originally performed. Thanks to Magnus Borgkvist Johansson and Jonas Stojiljkovic Pedersen for inviting me to play.

The music contains some live looping and various poems and soliloquies from the classic canon of English Literature were used in the loops. I thought it pertinent to name the music after one such soliloquy cited below.

Be not afeard. The isle is full of noises,
Sounds, and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices
That, if I then had waked after long sleep
Will make me sleep again; and then in dreaming
The clouds methought would open and show riches
Ready to drop upon me, that when I waked
I cried to dream again (III.ii.130–138).

The Tempest, William Shakespeare

Play it loud and enjoy the music!
